Astros’ Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve skipping All-Star Game

Add Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa and second baseman Jose Altuve to what will likely be a growing list of players skipping this year’s MLB All-Star Game held at Coors Field on Tuesday night.

Per an ESPN piece, the pair of American League reserves announced the news ahead of the Thursday afternoon game at the Oakland Athletics.

“Baseball is really important to me but family will always come first,” Correa explained while also speaking about his pregnant wife, Daniella. “It’s a tough decision … people voted for me to be in it, people want me to see me play in it, but we’ve been trying now for a long time to have our first child and now that finally they’re in her belly I want to be able to spend those days with her.”

Meanwhile, Altuve said he wants to use the upcoming break to rest what’s been a lingering left leg issue.

On Wednesday afternoon, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom confirmed he’s not pitching in the All-Star Game. The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner is one of the many players who have experienced injuries and physical setbacks while attempting to play in a full season coming off the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
